Mayor Alan Perry, on behalf of Hilton Head Island Town Council, issued a proclamation Oct. 13 recognizing October as National Medicine Abuse Month. The town's Oct. 15 recap says the designation is meant to raise public awareness of the dangers of medicine misuse and to encourage all residents to safely dispose of unused or expired medications throughout the year at the Sheriff's Rx drop-off box and at local Rx drop-off sites. The next regular Town Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2026, at 3 p.m. Last verified Oct. 17, 2026.
